A bizarre ritual has been taking place in the Marutheshwara temple near Mudhol town in India. It is a Hindu ritual which involves tossing their children off the roof top of the ancient temple onto a cloth that is being held by a group of men at the bottom. They believe this makes the child stronger. It is a practice local priests say that has been passed down from generation to generation. Parents with children anywhere between three months and up to two and a half years present them to the priests to toss them off the roof of the temple. The ritual has been criticized over the years but its devotees always stand up to defend it.
