Swedish furniture retail giant IKEA uses European sizes for beds and mattresses. In the UK, the length of a bed or mattress generally varies with the width but IKEA sizes have a fixed length of 200cm (6'6") regardless of the width.

The new IKEA sizes of divan bases and mattresses available to purchase from Odd Size Beds are as follows:

• IKEA European Single: 90cm x 200cm (3'0" x 6'6")
• IKEA European Double: 140cm x 200cm (4'7" x 6'6")
• IKEA European King Size: 160cm x 200cm (5'3" x 6'6")

When choosing the correct measurement of a mattress, IKEA recommends that you should have around 10cm of space between the bottom of the mattress and your feet when lying on your back. In terms of width, you should be able to slide both hands under your pillow without your elbows reaching the edge of the mattress when lying on your front.
